Lightning capital of the world.
Got hit by lightning last night. At least my house did. Or it was close enough anyway to trip two breakers, fry the FiOS box and kill my wireless router. I still had phone service, but the ONT (the fios box) would only run off it's battery. This means no internet, but still have phone. After about 13 hours (7am this morning) the battery finally died, so the phone stopped working. When this happened, the alarm system started this annoying beeping every 10 seconds. Called ADT and they said nothing can be done to stop it until the phone line is working again. So the tech finally gets out at 1:00 and has to replace the whole box. I'm working off their router, but it's not wireless. So, I'm off to Circuit City to get a new one so Brig can use the laptop from the couch where she's confortable. I think I'll get another surge protector for the ONT as well. I can't believe nothing else got damaged. | | Wednesday, August 3rd, 2005 | | 7:58 pm |

Appetite for what?!?
I've seen this commercial on Food Network 3 times this weekend for something called Urine Gone. It's this stuff you spray on urine stains that will magically make them disappear. How? It has these enzymes in it that "have an appetite for urine." Not something I want to hear on the Food Network. Day Off
Got the day off today. Verizon is installing FiOS today. It's suppose to take 4 hours. They ran the line to the house on Saturday. He says that it will take him about 2 hours to replace the box on the side of the house. Then it will take 30 minutes to set up my pc. 30 minutes?? All he's going to do is "set up IE and Outlook" and install MSN. How long does that take? I hope MSN is easy to uninstall. Also, according to Verizon's website, I must use their router. That's fine, but the free installation only includes a 4-port router. They want to charge me $70 for a wireless one. It's a D-Link, but it's just a normal router as far as I know. I think it connects to the internet using PPPoe. I should be able to set up my Cisco wireless router to do that. If not, I think I can make the 2 routers work together. On top of that, the contractor is here to tear up our driveway. The company that installs the cables for Verizon lifted half of the driveway up about half and inch, so they are going to replace it. He says that they hope to pour the new one on Tuesday of next week. They have to test the desity of the ground first. Then we can't drive on it for a few days after that. So, may have to park in the street for a while. The horror!! | | Friday, April 29th, 2005 | | 5:27 pm |
XXX
Read a couple reviews for the new XXX movie and a couple quotes stood out: "Takes bad to a new extreme" and "Explosively dumb." I think I'll skip this one. | | Thursday, April 28th, 2005 | | 7:57 pm |
John the addict.
Why is it that in Garfield, John talks while the cat thinks and John still hears it? Maybe Garfield is just a regular cat and John is either crazy or constantly high. If he's hearing voices, then he might just be psycho. But he also sees the cat talking to spiders and mice. He's hallucinating. The cat really just jumps on the spider and eats it, pounces on the mouse and eats it, etc. And cats don't smile, but in John's head they do. No wonder he can't get a date. I didn't see the movie, so maybe they covered this already. | | Thursday, April 21st, 2005 | | 5:46 pm |

WOW, and update!! 8oz is a cup, right? Then, why does a cup on my coffee maker equal 6oz. Is it something in coffee terms where they have their own definition of a "cup"? I've been wondering why I brew 2 cups of coffee in the mornings, poor it into my 16oz travel mug, and there's still room left over. I'm not putting that much half-and-half in it! Bastards are shorting me 4oz. No wonder I'm so tired. Anyway, after almost 5 months, I think I'm fully ingrained into a 2-"cup" a day coffee habit. WooHoo! At least it's better than taking a Vivarin before work like I had been doing. They are supposed to equal the caffine of 2 cups of coffee. 12oz or 16oz? wtf?
At one time, not that long ago, I didn't think I'd be drinking beer or coffee on a regular basis. But here I am. Not at the same time...yet. I did try that BE beer (pronounced B-to-the-E, I think). Beer with caffine, gensing, and garanna added. Nasty.
I bought a bottle of tequila the other day. Tried to open it, and to my dismay, the safety "ring" fell off. Like it had been opened. I toyed with the idea of drinking something that may have been opened, but decided to pour $18 down the drain, litteraly. <sniff> Bought another one of the same brand today, and it's the way the ring is designed. You open it, and it just falls on in 2 pieces. damn. Haven't had the courage to buy any of the $30 to $60 bottles yet. My tequila tastes aren't that defined yet.
Ok Brig, I updated! Happy now?!? | | Saturday, February 12th, 2005 | | 11:17 pm |
Well, Brig didn't make it home today. She saw the doctor today and he said he wouldn't send her home before Monday. It sucks, but it's good they won't send her home until they're sure she's ok. | | Friday, February 11th, 2005 | | 6:05 pm |
Another fun Friday night.
Brig had a new procedure today. Now, they've put a tube directly into her (semi)good kidney so it can drain directly. Then hopefully the bladder can heal on it's own since it won't be so irritated. This may help her kidney function and if her creatin level drops to a certain point, they can stop dialysis. That would be nice. Not sure how comfortable it will be with a tube comming out of her back though. She may go home tomorrow if she isn't having any problems from it. Then in a few months, will go back and see how the bladder is doing. I haven't gotten to talk to her since she had it done. Her mom is here now. Got a little information, but having to ask her anything is frustrating. She's deaf as a...um...deaf bat. So I just nod. I'll get more information tonight. She's in dialysis now, so I don't plan on getting there until about 8 or so.
Looks like Verizon is about finished wrecking my yard. They still have to put down some more dead sod. They dug on both sides of my driveway and then used a jackhammer-like thing to pack the dirt back down. They raised half of my driveway by about a quarter of an inch. It isn't that big of a deal. I don't think I'll trip over it and maybe it will settle back down after driving or jumping on it. I have a new box in the ground. It's green, so it doesn't match the rest of they yard. It's flat to the ground, so it's ok. Complain as I might, but I'll be one of the first to sign up for Fios when it's available. I may get the TV service with it to, so I can have HD channels for the hdtv I don't have. At least I can get rid of the dish on the roof. So I can get phone, internet, TV, and cellphone on one bill. I guess that would be nice. | | Saturday, February 5th, 2005 | | 9:51 am |

Still not much new here. The urologist changed the stint Brig's kidney yesterday and look in her bladder while he was at it. Then later in the day, they did a scan on her kidney's. She hasn't talked to them yet, so I don't know what's next. If they decide that they want to give it a little more time to heal and don't have any more tests to do and she's physically fit, maybe they'll send her home sometime next week. It kinda seems like the hole in her bladder is closing up on it's own, which is what they were hoping for. Then, hopefully, they can get in and fix her other problems. Maybe she'll still be able to get on a kidney transplant list, so she doesn't have to have dialasys forever. Right now, I'm playing with Randy's xbox. Trying to figure out how to network it. I might be able to hook it up to the laptop and use it's wireless connection. I need to get a crossover cable for that. I thought I had one, but it doesn't look like any of my cables are. Strange. I could swear I had at least one. Anyway, if I did netowrk it, I'm not sure what I'd do. I just want to see if I can. I downloaded the Big Ass Emulator Disk for the xbox. It has emulators for NES, SNES, Master System, Genesis, Intelevision, Atari 2600, 5200, Turbographix 16, Colecovision, Atari Lynx, Neo Geo Pocket, Wonderswan, MSX, and MSX2 and it seems like every game ever made for them. I have no idea what those last 3 systems are. Was playing Super Mario Bros the other day, harnessing the power of the XBox. I have to try ET for the 2600. Yeah, I know it's one of the worst games ever made. It's for nostalgia, you know. First thing's first though. The dog needs a bath. damn. Current Mood: mellow | | Saturday, January 29th, 2005 | | 2:20 pm |
Nothing really new with Brig. They were talking about sending her home soon, but it looks like she may stay a bit longer. The problem right now is that she's spent the past 2 months laying down, she can't really move around that much. So, now she has a physical therapist working with her to get her back in shape. Otherwise, she's doing really good. The doctor told her that the hole in the bladder may close up on it's own since they are taking pressure off it with the catheter. This would be a very good thing. She still has a long way to go, but things are looking up. I'm not going to the hospital today because I don't want to get anywhere near the parade. They have 2 exits on the Crosstown closed along with several streets. Good news for her is that her new room is facing the water, so she should have gotten a nice view of the flotilla as it came in this morning. She's a little far from the parade route to see much without binoculars, but she can watch it on TV I guess. | | Wednesday, January 26th, 2005 | | 8:12 pm |

Nothing really new with Brig. She's eating solid food now. The docs have given her permission to start moving around more, so she should be walking around the floor soon. They also said she should be able to go home soon. There hasn't been any bleeding since last week's "incident." They still have to talk the the urologist to see what he wants to do next since the next thing that has to happen is fix that hole in the bladder. Got the day off. People gonna be all up in my face today. Got an annual eye appointment to make sure I'm not going blind and a dentist appointment. They're probably going to ask me when I'm getting braces. I'll have to tell them that it won't be anytime soon. I upgraded my dental insurrance this year to cover half of it, but finances are going to be tight for a while. I'm in the mood for non-Bell mexican food today. Haven't been to Estella's for a while. out. |
